Kathleen Mar joined the RIFS in 2012 and leads the research group "Climate Action and Sustainability in National and International Processes (ClimAct)," which focuses on questions related to climate and sustainability governance. Her work is characterized by engagement at the science-policy interface, including participation in and research on political processes that aim to address climate change and sustainability. At the national level, the focus is on advancing Germany's National Sustainable Development Strategy; at the international level the focuses is on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).

Kathleen holds a Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and worked at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) prior to joining the RIFS.
